Allison Anderson, Ph.D.
Research and Impact Advisor @ Building Markets
About
I am a researcher, strategy consultant, and educator specializing in social impact, with a focus on gender equality, inclusive economic development, and the political economy of the Middle East. I have conducted research for and advised organizations across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, including the Gates Foundation, Microsoft, The Washington Institute for Near East Policy, USAID, and numerous nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). I use research and data to create policies and strategies that lead to real, measurable impact. Previously, I worked in a strategy role in the Office of the President for Global Health at the Gates Foundation and as a strategy consultant in Deloitte’s Government & Public Services practice. Early in my career, I served in the U.S. Peace Corps in rural Jordan. I hold a Ph.D. from the University of Washington Jackson School of International Studies, where my research examined women’s entrepreneurship and the digital economy in Jordan. I also earned an M.A. in International Relations and International Economics from Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a B.A. in Political Science and Arabic and Islamic Studies from the University of Michigan.
