I was doing my third year practicals at Emfuleni. I was shadowing a EHP, what they do is they are known as health inspectors. There are many different duties that we have to perform such as vermin control. food safety and hygiene, water quality control and waste management just to name a few.

* Preparing sampling media * Conducting monitoring under the Supervision of a Occupational Hygienist, dust and noise monitoring. * Preparing lab sheets * Transporting of sample media * Administration * Ergonomics surveys * Indoor air quality surveys

* As a EHP my duties are to perform the following functions in and around the clinics in the Motheo Distrct * Hazardous Substance monitoring * Health Education * Water quality monitoring * Health care-risk waste management * Pollution control * Water and sanitation monitoring

* I had to perform the following functions under the guildlines of my Manager Ms Marquerite Pullen who is an Occupational Hygienist: * Preparing sample media and equipment * Verifying the pre and post calibration of equipment * Hazard Idenfication Risk Assesment * Administration

* Conduct OHS audits at Head office as well as all the Reserves and Resorts under administration of the Department. * Identify and manage Occupational health and safety related risks in the workplace * Identify, assess and control environmental hazards * Develop, implement and maintain Disaster management plans * Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of Occupational Health and Safety Policies and procedures within the Department for further improvements
