Chief Executive Officer @ Stevenage Football Club

About

Stuart built Intent Media - developing it via organic growth and acquisition into a £10m business with events, magazines and digital communities across entertainment, tech and leisure markets. Prior to his departure in October 2013, Intent's portfolio included Music Week, MCV: The Market for Computer & Video Games, Develop, Mobile Entertainment, BikeBiz, Pro Sound News Europe, Audio Professional International, ToyNews, Musical Instrument Professional, PC Retail, Licensing.biz, MCV India, MCV Nordic, MCV Pacific, TVB Europe, Installation, Audio Media, TV Technology Europe and TV Technology Asia. Events included the London Games Conference, Music Week Awards, Monetising Mobile, MI Retail Conference, PCR Retail Boot Camp, Develop Awards, MCV Awards and the Games Media Awards. Intent was sold to Newbay Media of New York in December 2012. Stuart became a major shareholder and chairman of Curve Digital in summer 2013. The indie games publisher, now called Curve Games, operates across Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo and PC. It was acquired by Catalis Group in January 2016 and grew into a global force thanks to hits such as Human Fall Flat, Bomber Crew, The Flame In The Flood, The Ascent and, most recently, Wobbly Life. Supporting the company through growth and subsequent transition, Stuart became Curve's executive chairman in order to lead a positive exit from the private-equity backed Catalis, culminating in a successful purchase by publicly-listed Nazara Technologies in May 2025. Stuart is now chief executive of Curve, which moved to a new HQ in Clerkenwell Green at the same time. He is also a former chair of charity Gamesaid, director and chair of Government-facing games industry trade association UKIE 2014-2021 and is a long-serving board director of Stevenage Football Club. Stuart is the co-author of Games War. Published in 1995 by Bowerdean, it sets out the UK marketing strategies of Sega and Nintendo from the mid-80s up to launch of the Sony PlayStation. Earlier in his career, there was a spell with ad agency giant McCann-Erickson, followed by 10 years as editor of Computer Trade Weekly, and he also wrote for Media Week and The Financial Times.

Hertford & Islington

Founder and MD, with focus on entertainment and tech - including video games, music, TV, licensing, toys, mobile, home computing and cycling. Stuart launched Computer Trade Weekly (CTW) rival MCV: The Market for Computer & Video Games in September 1998, backed by German media group Computec AG. Stuart acquired and relaunched Develop (for programmers, artists and musicians) in November 1999. This was followed by the acquisition and relaunch of ToyNews in January 2001. In March 2002, an MBO was concluded for £1.1m. At the same time, Intent acquired the assets of rival games weekly CTW. Intent launched computing trade title PC Retail in August 2003 (and acquired the assets of Trinity Mirror title CTO), then Mobile Entertainment in 2005, BikeBiz and MI Pro (both acquisitions) in spring 2006, Audio Pro International in September 2007 and Licensing.Biz in September 2009. Other acquisitions included the assets of Prestige Media (Mobile Music Now, Stream) and Skep Media (Video Home Entertainment, RRP, Games 3.0 and InStock Magazine) in 2008. Growth continued as digital and events headed towards 50% of total revenue. Among many new events, The London Games Conference was opened by UK Minister for Culture, Ed Vaizey in 2009. By 2010, Intent employed 50 staff in its Hertford HQ. It completed the £2.4m acquisition of Music Week, TVB Europe, Installation and Pro Sound News Europe from UBM in August 2011. Music Week was successfully relaunched and UBM staff were transferred to a new office in Islington, taking Intent Media’s count to 100 and annual revenues to £10m. Intent then launched MCV Pacific, MCV India and MCV Nordic, as well as a string of new events. Success attracted the interest of New York-based NewBay Media, owned by private equity firm The Wicks Group. Newbay completed its acquisition of Intent Media in December 2012. This was followed in spring 2013 by Intent relaunching Audio Media, TV Technology Europe and TV Technology Asia for Newbay.
