While Chief Financial Officer at the ConAgra Malt Group of companies we implemented a strategic plan that doubled operating earnings while reducing the debt required to operate the business. The business generated nearly $ 1 billion in sales annually, with facilities in Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada.

Directed all logistical, accounting, financial and risk management functions of Cargill’s worldwide energy business. • Teamed with other senior managers to develop and implement division’s five year strategic plan leading to disposition of terminal operations in US and Germany and improved profitability. • Implemented worldwide systems and procedures throughout division, saving over $1 million annually in maintenance, distribution, travel and training costs

Managed all accounting, financial and risk management functions for Cargill’s US energy business. - Designed and implemented Activity Based Costing system that significantly improved business work processes – saving $500k in wasted effort or duplication and increasing customer service levels. - Realized significant improvements in customer and supplier relationships by clarifying requirements through quality program. Two programs saved over $400k in annual interest costs via better margin and receivable management. - Researched, purchased and implemented a global trading and accounting system that significantly improved position reporting, logistics management and contract administration at 20% of the expected cost.

Managed operations (settlements and clearing) and accounting (recording and reporting) functions for Cargill’s securities trading arm. Implemented the foundation of Cargill’s key trading risk management system derived from daily financial reports. - Developed method to handle business activity, conserving over $1 billion of company’s balance sheet. - Strengthened internal control activities of rapidly growing business unit by identifying key risk areas and designing secure processes around those areas. - Managed the settlement of over $ 4 billion of security settlements - Designed and implemented daily profit and loss reports as part of the divisions risk management requirements - Lead 25 operations and accounting professionals in the development of best of class practices in the clearing and accounting of financial securities

CARGILL INC. – Minneapolis, Minnesota 1987-1990 Financial Manager – United States Grain Business Developed training program and closing system that significantly improved understanding of basis trading and grain positioning within professional accounting staff and cut time to close monthly books in half. CARGILL INC. – Chicago, Illinois 1983-1987 Regional Accounting Manager – Central Region Grain Business Supervised Central Region’s accounting activities, which included Cargill’s export terminals in Louisiana, Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana river terminals on Illinois River and country elevators in various Midwest states.
