Sofia Yaker

The world of sports media is growing and a new generation of creativity, drive and passion is needed to keep up with expanding social media and capture historical and iconic moments in sports. Coming from a long line of coaches, my love of sports and my passion for photography has led me to merge the two and pursue sports photography. I am currently a student photographer interning for the University of Georgia Athletic Association, where I photograph all UGA athletic events, including football. Through interning with UGA Athletics, I have become proficient in working with cameras and knowing camera settings, I have learned how to caption and edit all of my own photos and work on deadline to upload my photos in a timely manner. At the University of Georgia I am studying journalism in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, minoring in Sports Management and pursuing the Carmical Sports Media certificate. So far in my time with Grady and the Sports Media certificate, I have learned how to observe sports, write and publish stories on deadline and edit. From Q&As, preview stories, election stories and more, Grady and Sports Media is helping me grow as a writer and reporter.
