I was hooked at an early age watching the family underwater technology business grow from the garage into an international business. Applying a degree in electronics & mechanical engineering and Masters in Oceanography I started work, after many holiday jobs, for real in 1993 as a junior engineer designing and taking systems offshore. In 2003 I led Sonardyne’s R&D team introducing new technologies to provide class leading underwater hybrid navigation, communications and sensing technologies enabling the worldwide offshore energy, ocean science and defence markets. In 2018 we formed a group (COVELYA) acquiring a number of related companies and expanding the technology and market footprint. An engineer at heart, with good commercial instincts, I love the challenge of understanding the breadth of market requirements, how we as a group can provide value to our customers and in return generate a return on our investment.
