Silas Yang

Silas Yang is currently serving as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and is a Justice of the Peace in Hong Kong. He is the Steward of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, a member of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and is the Deputy Chairman of the Open University of Hong Kong. He is also a Board Member and the Audit Committee Chairman of the Hang Seng Management College. He is an Independent Non-Executive Director of both the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and Tencent Holdings Limited. He is a Vice Patron of The Community Chest of Hong Kong. Silas Yang was the PwC Asia Pacific Chairman and was one of the five members of the Global Network Leadership Team of PwC from 2001 to 2015. In 2001, Silas was elected Chairman and Senior Partner of the PwC Hong Kong firm. He became Executive Chairman and Senior Partner of PwC in China and Hong Kong in 2002. In the same year, he took the opportunities of the Enron saga and acquired the Andersen practices in Hong Kong and China and made PwC the largest professional services firm in Hong Kong and China. In his early years as a partner, Silas was actively engaged with Price Waterhouse’s initiatives to establish a presence in China. In January 1993, he moved to Shanghai to set up the joint venture between Price Waterhouse and the local Da Hua accounting firm and acted as the Founding Managing Partner of the Price Waterhouse Da Hua JV Firm in Shanghai. He provided business advisory services to multinational companies looking to invest in China and assisted PRC corporations to list in the Shanghai and Hong Kong stock exchanges. In late 1995, Silas returned to Hong Kong where he continued to serve a broad range of large corporations. Silas retired as PwC Asia Pacific Chairman in June 2015.
