I spent 15+ years in the energy industry, with more than a decade at ConocoPhillips. During my time at Conocophillips, I was fortunate to be part of and lead variety of path breaking new venture projects. My first exposure to new ventures came through my involvement in the Eagle Ford exploration, appraisal and development project. A new concept of extracting hydrocarbons from tight shales led to the energy revolution in the US and globally. Eagle Ford is now one of the largest assets for ConocoPhillips in the L48. I was fortunate to lead the subsurface evaluation of ConocoPhillips' first major international shale gas project in Europe. The experience gained in that project from making new country entry to tackling geo-pollical risks proved to be invaluable, although ultimately the project was deemed to be economically challenged. The prospect maturation projects in the Western Gulf of Mexico were some of the most challenging ventures I dealt with during my time with ConocoPhillips. The task of managing a high risk, high reward portfolio of new ventures proved to be a great learning opportunity.
