To identify stated and unstated needs of the product specific to their function considering the inputs provided by Project Manager
To address the requirements in the solution architecture
Functional decomposition of the solution architecture into product components and mapping to the requirements
To identify the requirements for internal and external interfaces
To identify use cases of operations of the solution & communicate the identified use cases to verification , Validation team.
Top level effort estimation and inputs to the Project manager for planning and control
Cost estimation based on the product inputs ( For Quotation , Budgeting)
Cost Control as per Business case

Product Design
To Develop, Evaluate and Select alternative solutions for the design
To arrive at the design based on the selected best solution
To design robust interfaces
Perform a make or reuse analysis for the product components
Managing the implementation of systems and monitoring their effectiveness in meeting business needs
Ensuring Product Design Integrity and ensuring Product Quality
Solution Architecture change management and evolution
Making recommendations as well as explaining technology solutions to senior management through presentations and advocacy
Develop Product support Documentation

Functional Activity
Establishing the function’s overall technology standards and practices
Identification and evaluation of tools, techniques and checkpoints for quality and efficiency improvement
Definition and Implementation of appropriate processes
Regular reviews of the relevant functional areas during and before milestone reviews for adherence to the aforesaid best practices and defined architecture
( TG Review )
Allocation of a suitably matched resource for project execution
Performance evaluation of the direct reports
Auditee and auditor in Work product audits of the critical deliverables and work products.
