A FAMILY STORY Our story began in 1936 with our foundation in Covilhã, a small city in the center of Portugal. Covilhã was known as the “Portuguese Manchester” where the Portuguese wool industry had its roots. The city is in the mountains and an ideal place for wool processing because of the abundance of good water, accessible supply of wood and sheep breading (the “merino” sheep race has its origins in the Iberian peninsula). For over 400 years wool manufacturing has been the main activity in the region and is embedded into the local culture. Know-how is being transmitted from generation to generation and the Paulo de Oliveira group is today the most important ambassador of this tradition. We are a vertical company producing from fiber to fabric, under the same roof, including the spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing. Today we are one of the most important companies in the textile industry in Portugal exporting most of our production to all continents. Among the values in which we believe the passion for the product, quality and innovation stands out. Consequently, we keep on investing in the latest technology, being a state-of-the-art unit for the production of wool fabrics and a reference company in the sector, globally. We are devoted to developing outstanding fabrics with functionalities and we are a leader in the production of comfort fabrics in Europe. We believe in responsible management and recognize the impact we have on the region, so our strategic decisions are based on the respect for the people who live in it. Consequently, we are also a reference in sustainable production. Most of the energy we use comes from our own solar panels. We are very concerned with energy efficiency and reuse most of the water consumed. We treat all industrial effluents and waste. The concern for sustainability also translates into the production of fabrics with reused raw materials and waste from the production process. The PAULO DE OLIVEIRA group is composed of 3 companies in the textile area, PAULO DE OLIVEIRA, PENTEADORA and TESSIMAX.
