As a midwife with 33yrs experience, i have seen many changes in the practice. I have noticed the medicalisation of the physiological act of birth and the subsequent consequences and have realised that many women and families are now suffering post traumatic birth symptoms . My interest is to address this and set families on a path to healing. My practice is individualised to each woman and family. This with my lactation skills and child health sleep and settling skills allow me to offer a comprehensive service. I have worked for several years in remote Aboriginal communities and have a better understanding of the issues that need to be addressed to "close the gap".Everyday I give thanks for the things that we take for granted like nutritious food and fresh water not just to drink but also in which to bathe. My practice is largely focussed around maintaining engagement and trust and with the Mothers and families with whom I work and also good lines of communication with practitioners in other Communities and centres.
