• Facilitated the Kigali Bus Restructuring Project that culminated in the development of a Business Model for Bus Services in Kigali and Bus Operator Contracts. • Planned and executed onboard bus surveys in Kigali, covering 55 routes, 400 buses, 19,540 vehicle trips, and 405,273 passengers, informing subsequent business model development. • Developed the framework and proposal for Kigali’s real-time passenger information system, outlining operational guidelines and a phased implementation strategy.

• Delivered 18 Transport Science lectures on Traffic Flow Theory and Transportation Planning to undergraduate students. • Served as a part-time research assistant, supporting commercial research projects within the Department of Civil Engineering.

• Provided academic support through mentoring, grading assignments and exams, and invigilating examinations.

• Collected detailed road inventory information, covering pavement conditions, bridge and drainage asset conditions, to develop a national road network database for Rwanda. • Oversaw traffic count surveys on district roads in Rwanda, delivering critical data to inform pavement design and maintenance strategies.

Thesis Title: Investigating the Link Between the Built Environment and the Incidence of Pedestrian Crashes in Cape Town, South Africa Abstract: This study explores the relationships between various aspects of the built environment - including density, land use, urban design, and transportation system - and pedestrian crashes in Cape Town, South Africa. Using generalized linear models and geographically weighted regression models, analytical models of pedestrian crashes were developed. Additionally, geospatial analyses were employed to identify pedestrian crash hotspots. The findings indicate that factors such as population density, land-use mix, four- and multi-legged intersections, signalized intersections, high mobility roads, and roundabouts/mini-circles are positively associated with pedestrian crash frequency. These models can be utilized to estimate future pedestrian crashes using readily available city-level information.

The Transportation Research Institute (IMOB) at Hasselt University in Belgium hosted and organized a training program titled "Road Safety in Low and Middle Income Countries: Challenges and Strategies for Improvement." This program, co-funded by VLIR-UOS (Flemish InterUniversity Board - University Development Cooperation), took place from September to December 2014. The curriculum included modules on Behavioral Influence, Introduction to Transportation Research, In-Depth Crash Investigation, Road Safety Evaluation: Methods and Applications, Strategic Project Analysis, Transportation Systems and Transport Policy: An Introduction, Research Sessions, and Excursions.

This research-based Master's program consists of 240 SAQA credits, with each credit representing 10 hours of work. I completed 11 course modules, including Transportation Economics, Traffic Flow Theory, Traffic Engineering, Transportation Safety Engineering, Transportation Planning, Public Transport, Human Factors in Traffic Collisions, Intelligent Transport Systems, Geometric Road Design, Foundation Design, and a Research Project. The research project, titled "Understanding Pedestrian Crossing Behaviour: A Case Study in the Western Cape, South Africa," examined various behavioral aspects such as walking speed, pedestrian delay, gaze behavior, pedestrian-vehicle conflicts, compliance with road traffic rules, and gap-acceptance behavior.
