Nilton Junior
Freelance Translator
About
My name is Nilton Junior and I am an English and Japanese to Brazilian Portuguese translator specializing in IT, apps and games. Even from a young age, I was interested in translation and IT, always fascinated in finding out how things worked and what the components were called in other languages. As an avid gamer growing up in Brazil, I had to pick up English quickly. Before I knew it, I was translating menu options for friends and family and reading all the tech material I could get my hands on, be it about next-gen video cards, motherboards or CPUs. After completing an in-depth degree in Portuguese and Japanese language, I was able to combine my previous subject knowledge with my newly acquired linguistic skills to work towards becoming the meticulous, professional translator I pride myself on today. One of my career highlights so far has been translating World of Warcraft, the MMORPG with the most subscriptions worldwide, and thereby contributing to its global success. Another key achievement was enabling important players in the entertainment industry to expand their customer base with valuable language consultancy services. As you can see, I firmly believe that being a translator and localizer is about more than just providing effective texts; it’s also about delivering results. How can I help you? • IT translation and localization for specialist and boutique translation agencies using consistent in-house terminology – no more confusing multiple TM results. • App translations so you can tap into a market with revenues that outstrip those of the equivalent in the US. • Game translations into Brazilian Portuguese so you can reach 40 million new customers. Whether you are an IT specialist, an app or game developer or a translation agency project manager, I can help you to increase your revenues by bringing your business to Brazil. ⇨ IT and Apps My portfolio includes translating press releases, manuals, user guides, apps (iOS, Android and Windows Phone), software, technical and IT videos and training courses. To date I have delivered over 400,000 words of internal documents for major companies in Brazilian Portuguese in the IT and electronics field. ⇨ Games My portfolio includes localizing interfaces, packaging, in-game dialogues, UI elements and manuals. To date I have translated over a million words for consoles, PC and mobile platforms. ⇨ Reap the rewards As a long-time games translator, I can say from first-hand experience that the main benefit clients see in reliable, high-quality translation is the savings in time and money during the QA process. I work with a desktop, four laptops and various smart devices for UI elements so that you can make the most of the latest equipment without having to buy it for your own office. When it comes to doing business, I set myself certain rules and standards to protect your product and ensure the translation gets you the desired results. Here are my three main criteria: • I am always clear about the fact I am not a translation agency or a team of translators. I can usually translate 3,000 words per day, which means that projects do not necessarily have to be split between a number of freelancers at the expense of quality. • I know the subjects I translate inside out, which gives me the advantage of being able to put myself in your clients’ shoes. By combining my technical knowledge with practical experience, I aim to make your text sound as though it was written for the Portuguese market from the start. • I proofread all my work before delivery and guarantee the safety of your project with three Internet connections and regular back-ups. • I have bank accounts in the US, Canada, Europe and Brazil, which means you will most likely be able to save on bank fees when it is time to settle my invoices.

I was hired on a temporary contract to work as a translator on the localization team for the prestigious World of Warcraft game. I translated over 250,000 words of quest descriptions, UI elements, skill descriptions, item names and other descriptions.
