About

In my present function as Professor and Director of AlgaePARC (www.AlgaePARC.com) I develop the research strategy and lead the Microalgal Biotechnology group with the goal of excelling in science and bridging fundamental research and commercial applications (business) to accelerate innovation in the field of microalgal biotechnology. I have served as president and vice-president of the Dutch Biotechnology Association (NBV) (2019-2023) and I am presently a member of the steering group of the European Algae Biomass Association (EABA). I have in the past worked as program manager Algal and Microbial Products at the research institute Food and Biobased Research , Wageningen , The Netherlands. I have worked at ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology), Switzerland, IBET (Institute of Experimental Biology and Technology), Portugal and at EMBO (European Molecular Biology Organisation), Germany. I obtained my PhD in 2003 at Wageningen University on bioprocess engineering.
