Area 120 is Google's in-house incubator. Many of Google's best ideas begin as experiments or passion projects. At Area 120, we work on 20% projects 100% of the time. My team is exploring opportunities in real-time telemetry and location intelligence where Google Cloud, Google Maps, and Google AI intersect.

Google.org is the philanthropic arm of Google. The Google.org Fellowship is a pro bono program that matches Googlers with Google.org grantees for up to six months on full-time technical projects. Fellows work alongside the nonprofit’s staff to build solutions, working as a team to ensure that the work has a sustained and lasting impact. I took part in a six-month fellowship to help New York State combat COVID-19. As part of the New York State COVID-19 Technology SWAT Team program, we built an open-source, dynamic concierge-like service to help New York State residents find and apply for social services relevant to their situation.

Google Maps sends over a hundred different notifications billions of times per day. My team guaranteed that notifications, as tools to assist people everywhere as they navigate, explore the world and get things done in the world, are always sharp, ready, and available for use across Geo. We applied data science, machine learning, and user research to improving the developer experience for over forty feature teams that send notifications and the user experience for billions of customers that receive them.

Founded and led Stofe, a 100+ person cross-functional organization within Google Cloud Platform that owned front-end engineering for a broad portfolio of Cloud products across Storage, Databases, Data Analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), and Machine Learning (AI/ML). Our products included Bigtable, BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc, Datastore, Filestore, Firestore, IoT, Memorystore for Memcache, Memorystore for Redis, Machine Learning, Machine Learning APIs (Speech, Vision, and Natural Language), PubSub, SQL for MySQL, SQL for Postgres, Spanner, Cloud Storage (aka GCS), and Storage Transfer Appliance.

- DoubleClick Campaign Manager (Nov 2010 - Nov 2014) - DoubleClick Planning (Jan 2013 - Nov 2014) - DoubleClick for Advertisers (Jun 2010 - Jun 2011) DoubleClick Campaign Manager (DCM) is a web-based ad management system for advertisers and agencies that manages the targeting, serving, and reporting of advertisements across any website. DCM allows advertisers and agencies to centralize and streamline the implementation of online advertising campaigns as well as to standardize the reporting and accounting of those campaigns. DoubleClick Planning is a web-based workflow solution for advertisers and agencies that helps media planners optimize the development of their advertising buys. DoubleClick Planning allows media planners to request proposals from publishers, negotiate offers, model media plans, generate media orders, and execute media plans as campaigns on ad serving platforms like DCM. DoubleClick Planning provides the upgrade path from DoubleClick MediaVisor, a premium legacy product developed for DFA6.

Managed multiple team consulting engagements and led architecture and technical direction throughout the firm. As a cross-platform specialist in high-performance computing and advanced data visualization, developed algorithms and production-grade systems to handle real-time pricing, trading, and monitoring, as well as simulation and back-testing of analytical strategies.

Responsible for company-wide architectural direction and technical leadership at this macroeconomic asset management firm with over $180 billion in global investments. Developed algorithms for market analytics, portfolio generation, and trade attribution. Enabled and enforced excellence in software development. Brokered cross-team, cross-departmental efforts. Explored and innovated new and upcoming technologies.

Responsible for the architectural direction and technical leadership at this hedge fund specializing in mortgage backed securities, collateralized debt obligations, and bond derivatives. Led the optimization and evolution of the company’s core analytics and pricing systems. Developed new software systems to help analyze and seize trading opportunities. Managed the design, administration, and growth of the company’s Linux-based compute farm. Trained and mentored engineers.

Responsible for product architecture, quality assurance, product support, developer relations, and intellectual property and patent management for this wireless/handheld software start-up. Headed the technology department, taking it from six people and a single release to over 30 people, several versions, and a handful of new products.

Evaluated existing software engineering processes for the Windows and Office divisions and re-engineered next-generation issue tracking, source control, localization, test management, and build distribution tools. Managed the specification, scheduling, and implementation of Microsoft’s company-wide internal issue tracking system. Managed design and execution of Microsoft’s US Government cryptographic validation program on which $750 million in annual revenue was contingent. Organized the various cryptographic development and validation efforts across Microsoft and educated their development teams on how to meet the coding requirements of NIST’s FIPS PUB 140-1. Drove customer satisfaction and adoption of key Microsoft technologies within the US Government and Military through on-site consulting, project management, and software development. Advised and trained client software developers on architecture, engineering processes, product selection, and coding.

Founded this Microsoft Solution Provider’s Internet Technologies Division and web-enabled the company’s flagship association management system.

As an on-staff programmer of the University, implemented software projects defined by university-wide MIS/IT initiatives. Projects included building the university's very first web site and automating student's dial-up connection process.
