About

Based on my experience in growing fruit and vegetables and setting up an allotment association to self-manage a site in South Cambridgeshire, I am currently giving talks to horticultural societies and gardening clubs on related issues. I also write articles on food self sufficiency and allotment issues for various magazines and have acted as a mentor for several groups looking to set up allotments. I am now offering practical workshops for groups or one - to - one sessions for anyone interested in growing their own fruit and vegetables or setting up allotments. Formerly I have worked as a professional researcher/writer and archivist for a wide range of organisations including The Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts (MSS), (the National Register of Archives), The New Dictionary of National Biography and Cambridge University Library, Dept. of MSS. I also worked as a 'para-legal' researcher for solicitors on behalf of clients requiring historical research in various subjects. Lately I have worked independently as a writer both on historical subjects and fruit and vegetable growing, with a particular interest in the Allotment Movement. I am a contributor to several titles including Kitchen Garden Magazine and Country Life. I am the founding Secretary of Haslingfield Allotment Gardeners Association and have acted as a mentor to local groups setting up allotments. Pulling together this practical experience with my historical interests I have published an article in the journal of the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners on reform of allotment legislation.
