The Fay Foundation will be leading two primary initiatives aimed at improving the availability of high-quality basic science data. An experimental protocol (“Precisely”) will promote the generation of inherently reproduced basic science results. A curated data service will host quality-checked datasets and tools to encourage their examination and reuse. Towards the latter effort, Professor Fay and Hill-Fay Publishing has generously agreed to let us reproduce data from the Hearing in Vertebrates book. Since Professor Fay has already done so much of the legwork, our main task will be data entry and designing the database. We are excited that this will be our first offering to the scientific community. We are also very fortunate that the American Tinnitus Association has agreed to partner with the Fay Foundation on a beta test of the Precise protocol. Note to researchers: An important aspect of this initiative is to provide funding to carry out laboratory research. If you are interested in learning more, please keep an eye out for announcements calling for lab participation.
