A project under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. To develop a web based knowledge portal that would provide access to all types of e-books, video lectures research papers and other e-learning material suitable for all age groups. - Worked on the multilingual enablement of the project i.e. enabling the document indexing and retrieval in various Indian languages like Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Odiya, Punjabi, Gujarati etc. Implemented language stemmers in Java and incorporated them into Apache Solr which is used for information retrieval by DSpace, an open-source institutional repository application used for the project. - Worked on ranking of retrieved documents so that more relevant documents are displayed before the less relevant ones. Also written a code to semi-automate the process of preparation of a relevancy benchmark for selecting the most appropriate ranking function.
