Consultant on contaminated areas, chemical safety, environmental health (risks) and environmental health impacts (e.g in ESIA/m.e.r.) In this role I have set up and applied new workable frameworks for environmental risk assessment (human toxicology, ecotoxicology) for severely polluted sites abroad (e.g. projects in India, Serbia, Tajikistan). This involved exposure assessment (data collection/sampling) modelling, toxicological- and risk assessments, conceptual site modelling, and drafting advice. My goal was to come up with an science-based but yet easy-to-interpret advice for remediation or other risk management strategies. In this role I also was involved in project coordination, development and design of new projects, client contact, communication/publication, and supervision of interns.

Participation in the "Qujing Lung Cancer Project". Yunnan Province (China) has the highest lung cancer incidence among non-smokers in the world. Study towards the relation between indoor air pollution (especially the use of "smokey coal") and pulmonary health. Fieldwork in China's rural area (personal exposure sampling), laboratory analysis of lung cells, data analysis regarding exposure and pulmonary health indicators.

The effect of temperature on environmental risk assessment using species sensitivity distributions" Analysis of toxicity data of two model compounds (cadmium and pentachlorophenol) on the effect of temperature change on aquatic species sensitivity. Collaboration IRAS and WUR/IMARES

Internship on the reporting and baseline evaluation of implementation of the Strategic Approach for International Chemicals Management (SAICM). SAICM is a policy framework to foster the sound management of chemicals worldwide. I achieved to quantify and classify disperse data on country-specific chemical management activities, and link them to 20 indicators of progress. This analysis has laid the basis of a formal SAICM/UNEP publication on the baseline assessment.

Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) I have set up and implemented a research project on (potential) health impacts (and associated healthcare costs) of EDCs, for the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment (IenM) and the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). The issue of EDCs is subject to large discussions, and therefore this project required careful analysis and interpretation of scientific data.
