Gloria MUNOZ

I’m a nephrology leader, sustainability advocate, and UKKA Sustainability Co-Chair, working to advance kidney care that is clinically excellent, environmentally responsible, and centered on patient autonomy. I’m one of the few UK nurses with specialist experience managing CKD3 patients exclusively in primary care, leading early interventions that slowed disease progression and improved outcomes. With 25 years of experience across clinical practice, service transformation, and advanced kidney care, I lead programmes that bring together clinical insight, global health perspectives, and sustainable solutions. My MSc in Global Health & Social Justice (King’s College London) sharpened my understanding of the social, environmental, and commercial determinants of health — a lens I use to improve outcomes for vulnerable populations. I’m particularly focused on prevention, patient empowerment, lean clinical pathways, and low-carbon alternatives within kidney care. Since 2024, I’ve co-designed and deliver the UK’s first Nursing postgraduate Sustainable Kidney Care module, piloted at King’s College London and the University of Sheffield. This reflects my commitment to building capacity, fostering critical thinking, and equipping the next generation to deliver ethically grounded, environmentally sustainable kidney care. My research has explored CKD risk management and renal replacement therapy options for people in prison, highlighting urgent equity needs. As a speaker, facilitator, and contributor at national and international conferences, I amplify conversations on sustainable kidney care, global health, and ethical practice — supporting a healthcare culture that protects the planet, empowers patients, and ensures fair access to high-quality kidney care.
