sabbatical motorsport
Having recently retired from state/national level motorsport competition, I took a 12 month break from my IT career and worked in the motorsport industry. I spent most of the year at race tracks across the county, working as a driving instructor for Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, Holden, Ford, SAAB and Audi. In that year, I was given a rare opportunity to manage a state based motorsport team. Unlike my IT career, my responsibilities included the maintenance of safety standards for drivers and crew, risk management, driver training, chassis and engine development, race strategy, promotional activities, contractual agreements and financials. The team's rookie drivers finished 2nd and 5th in the Victorian championship, beating many established and competent drivers. I have fond memories of my sabbatical and am very grateful of the opportunities afforded to me at the time.
