Fiona Nyhof

I am an experienced food product development technologist with a passion for sharing my skills and knowledge with students studying food science and people seeking help to develop their innovative food product ideas into viable product prototypes. After many years mentoring third year University students navigate food product development projects in partnership with commercial sponsors and working both in industry in a hands on and in a consulting capacity, I have an excellent understanding of the food product development process. I love seeing the results of successful team building and project management produce innovative and viable product outcomes. To achieve this a high level of food science and technology know how and expertise is needed. My own areas of technical competencies include consumer research, ingredient science, processing methods, product labelling, food safety and quality management. I am retiring from my role at the University of Otago as a Professional Practice Fellow in December 2023, but as a Fellow of the of the New Zealand Institute of Food Science and Technology, I will continue to support branch activities such as school science fair projects and careers events. Outside of my professional life I enjoy volunteering with Orokonui Ecosanctuary and Rotary Dunedin while living on a beautiful but challenging lifestyle block.
