Master Thesis Project: LITTER-GATE - Mapping Marine LITTER accumulation in Coastal Environments around Svalbard 'the GATEway to the Arctic' using Multispectral Imagery and Machine Learning. The thesis is a cooperation project between the University of Oslo, NGI and Svalbard Folkehøgskole. The main goals of the thesis is testing the effectiveness of utilizing uncrewed aerial vehicles equipped with multispectral imaging systems to identify plastic litter on beaches in Nordvest Spitzbergen National Park. The data collected will be processed and analyzed to develop algorithms for detecting and mapping marine litter.
