About

I am a Master Mariner and maritime academic with more than fifteen years of combined command, teaching, and leadership experience across Europe and the Gulf region. My professional focus is bridging operational seafaring practice with research-informed maritime education aligned with STCW, IMO, and CAA standards. Holding a PhD in Nautical Science from the University of Antwerp, my doctoral research examined intercultural competence and communication aboard merchant vessels—linking crew interaction, cultural safety, and training methodology in Maritime Education and Training (MET). I serve as Associate Professor of Maritime Transport, currently seconded to the UAE under a fixed-term contract, while holding a permanent appointment with Jade University of Applied Sciences in Germany. My academic work integrates simulator-based instruction, bridge resource management, and digital navigation systems within competency-based curricula. Beyond academia, I have contributed to EU-funded maritime projects such as PALAEMON and MARILANG, and advised port authorities and maritime administrations on safety management, port governance, and operational reform. My current professional aim is to advance the international standard of applied maritime education—linking digitalisation, sustainability, and human competence to prepare officers for a decarbonised, technology-driven maritime future.
