Chief Executive Officer @ Playmint

About

I have spent over 30 years in the games industry leading teams, shaping products, and building studios across console, PC, and mobile. I have scaled organisations, led multi-title portfolios, and worked closely with publishing, UA, analytics, and community teams to deliver games with global reach and sustained engagement. At Playmint, I lead a multidisciplinary studio exploring decentralisation in shared online experiences, backed by BITKRAFT, a16z, and other leading venture investors. Previously, I served as General Manager at MAG Interactive, contributing to a portfolio with hundreds of millions of downloads and significant LiveOps-driven growth across multiple titles. Earlier in my career I co-founded Relentless Software, where we created Buzz!, a BAFTA-winning franchise enjoyed by millions of players that helped redefine how people play together in the living room. Prior to that, I held production leadership roles at Electronic Arts and Bullfrog. I am interested in how teams and products evolve over time. I focus on aligning product direction, organisational structure, and studio culture to support sustainable long-term success. I continue to stay connected with teams and leaders shaping the future of interactive entertainment.

MAG acquired Delinquent, a studio I founded with David Bishop and Chris Lee. Since then I have been part of MAG's leadership team, working closely with User Acquisition, ASO, Business Intelligence and the game teams to create and live operate hit games such as Ruzzle, WordBrain, Wordalot, Quiz Duel, Word Domination, Paint Hit and Wordzee. Hundreds of millions of downloads and counting. MAG was listed on the Nasdaq First North exchange in December 2017.

Relentless Software

Relentless was the opportunity to put years of production and industry experience into a studio of my own. We created an environment that led to a great working relationship with Sony, with whom we created the BAFTA winning, multi-million selling Buzz! franchise. Our breakthrough moment was when we stopped making games for gamers and learned how to make games for everyone, which is something that has heavily influenced every product I’ve been part of since. In ten years, the company developed from a fledgling business of 15 people to an organisation with 120 employees. After creating over 150 SKUs for Sony we went on to work on key titles with Microsoft before creating and self-publishing Murder Files, which became an iPad #1.

A learning experience. Handed a second rate contract with a third rate publisher, I established a new studio for Computer Artworks. After the relative comfort of Electronic Arts, Computer Artworks taught me how to deliver software with my back against the wall.

In the videogame industry in 1994 there were few better places to work than Electronic Arts. A publishing powerhouse, we championed the videogame developer as an artist and created some truly inspiring software. I learned the economics of the industry and taught myself how to build a team to get results. As external development relations manager, I visited over 100 developers across Europe. When EA merged with Bullfrog I was lucky enough to work with some of the best talent in the industry. Being part of the Dungeon Keeper 2 team will remain a career highlight.

Mindscape was a small publisher, handling some truly great games. Joining in a junior role, I soon moved into production. In a triumph of enthusiasm over ignorance I blew NES EPROMS of Paperboy, talked customers through running Wing Commander in base memory, playtested Magic Pockets and took sales calls for Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing. 40 games over 12 platforms. Halcyon days.
