About

I am an urban planner and designer, with recent projects related to city and district master planning; mapping; climate change, energy, and environment; and transportation. I focus my professional practice on the ways data can inform, justify, and inspire design and development in urban environments, and engaging stakeholders in a collaborative planning process. I am always looking to develop new skills and explore new ideas. My other professional experiences include energy and environmental consulting, government relations and policy analysis, residential and landscape construction, event planning and management, and nonprofit administration. I have an educational background in economics, political science, and physical planning and design, and I pride myself on my ability to communicate complex planning and design concepts via graphics, prose, and speech.

My work at Cadmus predominantly focused on energy and the environment. I performed quantitative and qualitative analyses of federal, state, and local infrastructure programs; synthesized data from large industry and national databases; managed tasks among junior staff; and written and edited technical papers and project reports to state and federal agencies and utilities. I also performed a number of contract administrative duties, including tracking travel, writing and reviewing monthly technical progress reports, and writing and reviewing work plans and budgets for federal work assignments.

As part of my fellowship award through the University of Michigan's School of Information (UMSI), I spent a portion of the summer living and working in Bangalore and partnering with the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) to help them develop an Urban Informatics Portal. My team, which also includes two UMSI students, has helped build a web-based mapping and data visualization tool to help Indian urban researchers and planners better access information on India's rapidly changing cities. My involvement in the project has included user interviews, interaction design, guidance on urban research and data analysis, project management and administration, and graphic design. In 2015, I began consulting for the latest group of GIEP Fellows. I provide technical advice on web mapping and data analysis as well as project management assistance.

Through a grant from Michigan State University, I spent time investigating the economic efficacy of Tax Increment Financing (TIF) districts. I worked with Asst. Professor David Bieri and PhD candidate Carla Kayanan to develop a database of and subsequently analyze TIF districts in the state of Michigan. I have also worked with Asst. Professor Maria Arquero de Alarcon to conduct a literature review of landscape assessment methods in an international context. I surveyed the existing methods and compiling specific case studies for students in a course module she taught in Ecuador. I have since then researched opportunities for blue and green infrastructure interventions in the city of Buffalo through mapping and investigations of existing planning frameworks.
