Project Title: Measurement of Thermo Physical Properties of Polymer-Composites Achievements: 1) Design,Fabrication and calibration of a computer-controlled Transient Hot Wire apparatus 2) Synthesis of NiO nano-particles 3) Preparation of polymer nano-composites 4) Measurement of Thermal conductivity of Nanoparticles and carbon nano-tube filled polymer composites 6) Development of a user friendly software program to compare experimental data to models for effective thermal conductivity of composites filled with particles and of nano-fluids using MATLAB. (1) The thermal conductivity of the nickel oxide nano-particles filled araldite epoxy resin was increased from 0.21 up to 0.46W/mK with 60 wt % nickel oxide filler. (2) Thermal conductivity of multi-walled carbon nano-tubes filled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) polymer nano-composites was increased by 82% on loading of 1 wt % MWCNTs.
