About
Having completed my goal of retooling to be prepared for any sudden changes in the slushy world of newspapers, I am ready to pursue a new career in the diverse world of communication. Purdue University has taught me more myself than I ever thought possible in communication, and I love it all. I thrived there and earned the degree in 18 months, right on schedule. I am versed in the language of crisis communication, public relations, marketing, and advertising, IMC, as well as training in developing a strategic communication plan that includes all current forms of traditional and new media. I'm super excited about the possibilities. I am currently working for the community editions of the Los Angeles Times as a staff photographer, continuing a 28-year career in newspapers. I've seen it all, from wet black-and-white, and color darkrooms, and lead the crossover from analog to digital at two daily newspapers. My diverse skills lead to a part-time instructor job at Pasadena City College to teach photojournalism. Over the last six years, I have taught the digital darkroom, digital video, photo stories, on-location portraits, layout and design, and the basics of photojournalism to hundreds of students who, many, have gone on to either find work in photography or continue their education in journalism. Photography is very rewarding. I also am an Elite Team Captain for Iconic Group, which includes MarathonFoto, and Grad Images. As an ETC, I have been recognized for my leadership abilities to help teach photographers, new and old, to be better at what they do. Specialties: Leadership, management, organization, communication, public relations, marketing, integrated marketing communication, IMC, advertising, crisis communication, social media, global communication, photography, portraits, teaching, instruction, college, community college, advisor, photojournalism, photojournalist, newspapers, editor, photo editor, visuals editor, new media editor, elite team captain, more.

Photojournalism Instructor/Advisor
Pasadena City College
Pasadena, CA
An opportunity presented itself, and I have been having a great time ever since. I teach photojournalism to photography students who want to be part of the school newspaper, The Courier. This year is the 100th year the student-run publication has been publishing. My role as an adviser is a perfect fit given I have a lot of experience I can offer. I have a deep knowledge of photojournalism which, through teaching, have found a deeper appreciation for the craft. I also have a lot of layout and design experience which has proven useful since The Courier is produced in our classrooms every week.

Staff Photographer
Los Angeles Times Community Newspapers
Glendale News-Press
Los Angeles Times management closed the 115-year-old Glendale News-Press, and the Burbank Leader and the La Canada Valley Sun on April 16, 2020. My role as a staff photographer comes to a close and I may have the dubious honor of photographing the last assignment for the long-time publication. Serendipity, if you may, as coronavirus may be the reason given for the closure and was the motivation for my final assignment.
