Anamaria Cuevas
Conservation Post Baccalaureate Intern @ Getty Research Institute
About
My career is the amalgamation of my adaptability, aesthetic eye, and detail-oriented nature. As the current Conservation Post Baccalaureate Intern at the Getty Research Institute I am gaining a new set of skills working with photography and paper works from the GRI library and archive. Previously I was the Nord Network Jr. Fellow in Conservation where I had the privilege to collaborate & learn from the preventive, objects and textile conservators. I’ve been able to perform treatment, gallery maintenance, condition examinations, climate monitoring and IPM assistance. My initiative has allowed me to wear many hats, surpassing expectations, and continuously elevating the standard of integrity in my work. My anthropological studies and fervent passion for the preservation of culture have fueled my pursuit of a career in conservation.

Experience

Nord Network Junior Fellow in Conservation
Cleveland, Ohio, United States
During my time at the CMA I assisted the preventive conservator with the preventive care needs of the museum: Performed routine gallery maintenance to ensure the overall stability of the collection. Conducted monthly climate monitoring of art storing spaces via dataloggers and produced monthly climate reports. Contributed towards monthly IPM checks. Assisted with the activation and maintenance of art work on display. Performed oddy testing of materials proposed for casework. In addition to these duties, I had the opportunity to gain hands-on textile conservation experience, including object examination, report writing, and treatment of several textile and fashion pieces for exhibition. I assisted with pinning for display and deinstallation of an exhibition of Korean couture. I took part in a large scale tapestry cleaning project of 5 tapestries that finalized over the span of nine months. In addition to preventive and textiles I was fortunate to work with other material specialities of objects and framing as well. I performed object treatment for display, created hinge mounts, and took part in a gilding workshop. This work experience has significantly expanded my skill set and has allowed me to further pursue my areas of interest.
