Group Human Resources Director
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Reported to the Group’s CEO and member of the Executive Team, I was in charge of the Human Resources function with a team of 13 people and more than 30 indirect reports, covering a population of 6,000 white collars and 17,000 blue collars employees, across different sectors. I was brought back to the Group as HR Director in 2013 and promoted to Group HR Director in August 2014. Responsible for developing and leading the implementation of the Group’s HR Strategy. Setting out the strategic direction and the annual strategic plan and objectives for the HR function, designing HR strategic initiatives. Lead the change and transformation programmes for the Group, which focused on shaping a strong and aligned company identity and culture, including the design and implementation of Group core values, while shaping and influencing employee communications to ensure engagement and clarity. Developed and lead the implementation of a compensation and rewards framework, which included job family modeling, job evaluations, job grading, compensation and benefits structures, and STI schemes across the Group. Including the training and coaching of the HR professionals and Senior Management teams in performance management across their respective SBUs, directed towards enhancing employee and business performance in alignment with company strategy. Enhanced the functionality of the HRIS to support the HR initiatives, introducing consolidated HR metrics, including performance management data to assess impact to the business and the required succession planning strategy for the senior positions and key roles in the Group. Responsible for the implementation of talent acquisition, development and retention strategies, including the introduction of core and position based competencies. Managed the Medical and Life Insurance programs at Group Level, achieved a reduction of medical insurance loss ratio by 74%, from 164% to 90%, in 3 years with an estimated total saving of AED 16 Mil.

Member of the Hotel Executive Team and responsible for a team of 11 people, covering a population of 700 employees. Responsible for the HR budget and delivery of the HR P&L, while developing and executing broad recruitment strategies ensuring that operational and management recruitment needs were met. Reduced the turnover in the first year of employment in 12% vs. prior year, by improving the person-organization fit and the on-boarding process and training Senior Management and Managers in behavioral based interviews. Shaped an open communication environment with the introduction of Quarterly business communication sessions targeting all associates. Successfully built a high performing and customer’s oriented team achieving a 87% rating in the internal satisfaction survey. Ensured that the Hotel’s succession and training plans supported employee’s professional growth, resulting in a 10% increase of internal promotions vs prior year. Ensured that all HR activities were measurable by introducing of several HR statistics reports.

Reported to the Group HR Director and in charge of a team of 3 people. I joined the Group as a Senior Compensation & Benefits specialist, promoted to Group Manager HR in May 2011. Designed and implemented, 22 Group HR policies and procedures. Led and implemented job grading and salary scales, with the Hay methodology, for 12 Companies. Supported company growth, locally and internationally by participating in the start up of 2 Companies in the UAE and 2 outside UAE ( Hotels in South Africa and Kazakhstan). Enhanced organizational capabilities by effectively restructuring 8 companies providing recommendations to the Board regarding the necessary organizational efficiencies and changes. Introduced a structured recruitment process covering job descriptions and salary recommendations, as well as, screening and interviewing candidates for senior and HR positions for the group and subsidiary companies.

Responsible for setting the Compensation & Rewards department within the HR department, Designed the company remuneration policy, ensuring internal equity and external competitiveness. Ensured the integrity of the HRIS information for all the hotel employees and introduced the required system enhancements to improve efficiency, ensuring 100% accuracy in the information provided to the organization. Provided guidance to functional leaders and employees regarding company policy and labour law, ensuring a consistent approach across the business. Established and controlled the hotel manpower by managing the headcount targets and the manpower budget, introducing weekly executive summary reports in order to follow up the turnover, organizational and compensation changes, manpower and budget compliance.

Organizational & Compensation Manager

Reported to the HR Director and in charge of a team of 1 person. I joined as Organizational Manager and promoted to Organizational & Compensation Manager in 2005, covering a population of 600 employees. Conducted job analysis and job evaluations for all position and defined career ladders. Designed and implemented the compensation & benefits framework including bonus schemes, for senior management, staff and sales force, and merit increases. Initiated the first local compensation survey in the Canary Islands for FMCG companies. Developed and applied the first performance based pay system. Designed and implemented training sessions related to Performance Management and Compensation for the whole organization. Opened a communication line with the Trade Unions achieving a collaborative relationship in the restructuring processes, internal promotions, changes in contracts and salary structures, as well as, the introduction of the performance management system for the whole Company. Responsible for the HR budget including, headcount plan, promotions, permanent and temporary hiring, retrenchments and terminations. Member of the implementation group for international projects, auditor for HR functions in the European countries and Russia, member of the continuous improvement committee and member of the quality committee.
