During my tenure as a mentor for Google Summer of Code 2024, I had the opportunity to guide and support developers in enhancing the ListenBrainz applications for both iOS and Android platforms. This experience was both challenging and rewarding, offering valuable insights into effective mentorship and project management. Key Responsibilities and Achievements: iOS App Enhancement: Oversaw the revamp of the Dashboard page and Feed, focusing on implementing a modern UI/UX design using SwiftUI. This included optimizing performance through advanced techniques such as lazy loading and integrating real-time user feedback mechanisms. Android App Improvement: Guided the development of enhanced artist, album, and user pages using Jetpack Compose. Key tasks involved redesigning pages for better user engagement, optimizing data handling with new API integrations, and incorporating interactive features for improved personalization. Mentorship and Growth: Developed and refined my mentorship skills by providing constructive feedback, setting clear project goals, and fostering an environment of collaboration and innovation. This role allowed me to deepen my understanding of mobile app development, enhance my ability to guide complex projects, and contribute to the professional growth of emerging developers. This role was instrumental in honing my leadership abilities, enhancing my technical expertise, and gaining a deeper appreciation for the mentorship process. I am proud of the significant contributions made to the ListenBrainz apps and the growth achieved by the developers I mentored.

I was a mentor for the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2023 under MetaBrainz, focusing on a pivotal project for the ListenBrainz Android app. The endeavour aimed at implementing a much-needed Feed Section, aligning the app closer to ListenBrainz's core vision of fostering a social media sphere centred around music​. During this enriching journey, I worked closely with a talented student developer, guiding them through the intricacies of Android, Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and Android Jetpack technologies. Together, we not only brought the Feed Section to life but also introduced additional features, enhancing the user experience and making the app more engaging and functional​​. The community discussions and the collaborative spirit of MetaBrainz, coupled with the fresh perspectives brought in by the GSoC participant, paved the way for robust discussion, code reviews, and iterative improvements. The project not only bridged a crucial functionality gap in the ListenBrainz Android app but also embodied the essence of open-source development, where learning, sharing, and growing happen symbiotically. This mentoring experience has been a two-way learning street, enriching my understanding of effective mentorship, open-source project management, and the profound impact of community-driven development. I look forward to contributing further to the MetaBrainz community and continuing to foster a nurturing environment for budding developers.

As a mentor for Google Summer of Code 2022, I had the opportunity to work with a talented candidate on the development of a new feature for the MusicBrainz Android app. The feature involved building an entire local music player using the Room database on Android. The candidate I mentored was tasked with creating a fully-fledged music player that would allow users to fetch their songs, albums, and playlists, and queue music for playback. The goal was to create a seamless user experience that would provide users with all the features they would expect from a modern music player. Throughout the development process, I worked closely with the candidate to provide guidance and support, helping them to overcome challenges and achieve their goals. Together, we implemented a range of features, including the ability to create playlists, browse music by album and artist, and search for specific tracks. Thanks to the candidate's hard work and dedication, the BrainzPlayer on the MusicBrainz Android app is now a fully functional music player that provides users with an exceptional experience. The new feature is a testament to the candidate's technical skills, creativity, and ability to work as part of a team. I am confident that the experience gained through this project will serve them well in their future endeavors.

After my successful participation in the Google Summer of Code program, I was hired by the MetaBrainz Foundation as a contractor. In my role, I focused on improving MusicBrainz, the community-driven music metadata database, with a dedicated team. We used a variety of technologies including React, NodeJS, Flask, Bootstrap, iOS, and Android to enhance the user experience and functionality of the application. In addition to my work on MusicBrainz, I also contributed to other MetaBrainz projects, including ListenBrainz and CritiqueBrainz. My contributions to these projects allowed me to broaden my skills and experience while making a meaningful impact on the music industry. Working with the MetaBrainz team was an incredible experience that allowed me to continue my growth as a software developer. I had the opportunity to collaborate with a passionate and dedicated team, learn new technologies, and tackle complex challenges. As a result of my contributions, I was even featured on the MetaBrainz Foundation's blog as their best participant for Google Summer of Code https://blog.metabrainz.org/2021/08/17/welcoming-akshat-tiwari-to-the-metabrainz-team/. I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with the MetaBrainz Foundation and excited to continue my journey as a software developer, leveraging my skills and experience to make meaningful contributions to the field.

As a Placement Coordinator for Delhi Technological University, I successfully onboarded 18 companies for campus drives and facilitated the placement of 80+ students during the 2021-2022 academic session. My role involved building positive relationships with HRs and managing communication between 5000+ students and the companies. This experience helped me develop valuable skills in communication, relationship building, and project management.

As the Lead Geek for Parklify, a startup I founded in college, I successfully provided budget parking solutions to vehicle owners. Our innovative approach utilized AI-powered security cameras and IoT hardware advancements to help users find a convenient and secure parking space via our mobile app and website. Over the course of 1.5 years, I built a team of 12 members and managed to get our startup incubated at Nasscom Foundation and Ciena for a year. Additionally, we won several hackathons, including those by Volkswagen and Delhi Technological University. Our efforts were recognized by various institutions, and we received 6 lakhs+ rupees in investment during the course of our company's journey. My experience with Parklify allowed me to develop valuable skills in entrepreneurship, team management, and innovation. It was an incredible journey that taught me the importance of perseverance, hard work, and dedication in building a successful startup.

At Delhi Technological University, I completed my Bachelor of Technology with a CGPA of 8.38/10, focusing on various computer science and engineering concepts. Throughout the program, I developed skills in data structures, algorithm design and analysis, and object-oriented programming. Additionally, I studied machine learning techniques, quantum computing principles, operating systems design, and gained hands-on experience in database management systems. This comprehensive education has equipped me with a solid understanding of the fundamentals necessary for a career in the technology industry.

In 2020, I was fortunate enough to receive a full scholarship to attend the Quantum Computing program offered by Qubit by Qubit. The program was sponsored by leading companies in the field, including IBM Quantum and Google Quantum AI, and provided a comprehensive introduction to quantum computing, covering both theoretical concepts and practical applications. I learned from experienced professionals and researchers from MIT, which provided valuable insights into the field. Throughout the program, I completed regular assignments and tests, which helped me to reinforce my understanding of the concepts covered in the course. By the end of the program, I was proud to have achieved a perfect score of 100/100, demonstrating my dedication and hard work. The knowledge and skills I gained through this program have provided me with a solid foundation in quantum computing, which could be valuable for pursuing further studies or careers in the field.
