Martin Ma

Assistant Professor at Singapore Institute of Technology. I work on applied machine learning and optimization for decision-making in complex industrial and energy systems. My primary application areas include CO2 and hydrogen transport and storage and subsurface energy systems, with growing interest in LLM-based agents to support and coordinate complex optimization workflows across regulated industrial domains. Across my career in Singapore, the United States, and Canada, I have led and contributed to multidisciplinary projects funded by government agencies and industry partners, with outcomes spanning peer-reviewed publications, open-source software tools, and decision-support platforms used in real-world settings. My recent work also explores LLM-based and agent-driven workflows as orchestration and human-AI interfaces for complex optimization pipelines, particularly in regulated industrial environments. While my primary application domains have been energy and subsurface systems, I actively collaborate across construction, food, pharmaceutical, and chemical engineering contexts, using these sectors as validation domains for scalable and transferable methodologies. My long-term goal is to build robust, generalizable AI-enabled frameworks that help engineers, policymakers, and organizations make better decisions in complex systems, bridging theory, computation, and deployment.
