Md Muazzam (Zam)
Artistic Director @ Arts for Action Cares Limited
About
Hello! I am the Founder and Artistic Director (2023–present) of Arts for Action Cares Limited, a nonprofit socially engaged arts organisation in Singapore. I am a transdisciplinary applied theatre practitioner with over 15 years of experience across community engagement, education, and performance-making. My cross-sector, intergenerational practice spans directing, facilitation, teaching, and producing, working with diverse communities in Singapore and abroad, often within complex human systems. My work is longitudinal and relationship-driven, and is recognised for its impact through funded initiatives that bridge the arts, community, and social sectors. A fellow of leading cultural platforms, I am currently pursuing a Master of Gerontology, supported by the NAC Arts Scholarship, to further deepen and specialise my practice.

Through these platforms, I have collaborated with artists, cultural workers, and changemakers across Southeast Asia and beyond. Programmes: (Present) Dialogue Centre's Fellow (Jul 2024 - Aug 2025) Artistic Directors Academy (ADA), T:>Works (Sep 2021 - Oct 2022) Arts for Good (A4G) Fellow, Singapore International Foundation

Theatre-maker
I began my theatre-making journey in 2010 with Whitelight Productions as a founding member of the drama club, debuting in Kuo Pao Kun’s The Silly Little Girl and the Funny Old Tree. Since then, my practice has expanded beyond performance to encompass directing, production stage management, and research. Over the years, I’ve collaborated with leading local companies such as Drama Box, The Necessary Stage, and ArtsWok, as well as international troupes including Evolution Productions (UK) and Lightwire Theater (USA), to name a few.

Drama Educator & Curriculum Developer
My journey in drama education started in 2012 as an apprentice with InwardBOUND, supporting resident directors in rehearsals, training, and club management. Since 2013, I’ve taught and developed programmes for preschool, primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, working with over eight vendors to deliver diverse forms such as Speech & Drama (English and Malay), Forum Theatre, Process Drama, Public Speaking, and Drama-in-Curriculum (Literature). I’ve also directed school concerts and CCA showcases, with students under my guidance achieving top accolades at the Singapore Youth Festival and Human Values Drama Festival.

Applied Theatre Practitioner
As my practice expanded beyond performance-making, I became deeply interested in using the arts as a tool for intervention, development, and dialogue. Since then, I have produced, directed, and facilitated socially engaged arts projects with children, youth, adults, seniors, and disenfranchised communities—both in Singapore and internationally, including India, Malaysia, and the Netherlands—crafting spaces for reflection, connection, and change. My work sits at the intersection of arts, community, culture, and education, and I am especially interested in cross-sector collaboration. I am trained and specialise in Reminiscence Theatre, Forum Theatre, Theatre-in-Education, and other participatory theatre forms.

Community Engagement Manager (Development)
Singapore
As one of the pioneering full-time staff at 3Pumpkins, I helped lay the groundwork for community development at its flagship programme, Tak Takut Kids Club (TTKC). I led youth engagement initiatives as a befriender and facilitator, organising monthly birthday celebrations, festive events, youth town halls, and Forum Theatre sessions. I also developed TTKC’s youth and children volunteering programmes to encourage peer-led contribution. In partnership with ComLink @ Jurong West, I coordinated strategic collaborations with multiple social service agencies, co-developing a casework referral system and a profiling database with researchers. I supported the induction and training of new programme leads and befrienders, while also producing public-facing initiatives such as TTKC’s first-ever Open House (2022), This Is What We Eat at Home (2022), and our participation in the International Community Arts Festival (ICAF) in 2021 and 2023. I also represented TTKC in talks with partners, including NTU students and participants of ArtsWok’s Greenhouse Lab.

Creative Artist
Prior to joining 3Pumpkins (Tak Takut Kids Club) full-time, I was involved in various creative capacities in the following projects: - IgnorLAND of its Loss (Dakota) - Both Sides, Now Carnival - Let's Go Play Outside - Homework Cafe - I Draw You, You Draw Me
