Coordinated an upgrade of a 40kW UPS to 75kW, including planning and performing installation of the new UPS. The power supply keeps TRIUMF’s critical data center running. One of my projects was to design power to supply for 2 quadruple and 4 bias coils, which is used for slowing down the particle before it gets trapped by high-power lasers. Various design constraints included the Canadian Electrical Code for the cable and tray sizes and specs, resource allocation, and spatial constraints. In order to protect the coils and the fast-switching power supplies, I incorporated an inline fuse against overcurrent and a varistor to dampen the back-emf for each circuit, simulated on LTSpice.

Collaborated with engineers, electricians, and technologists from various divisions to work on both small and large-scale projects. Projects included Advanced Rare Isotope Lab’s Target Pit infrastructure, Lighting Upgrade design, Cyclotron Vault cable tray design, servicing of Proton Cave, UPS replacement. Also conducted Engineering Change Order (ECO) process to review, make changes, and release designs to be issued for pricing and construction.

Main duties include testing and troubleshooting Dell mainboards and communicating with other processes on site. Handled simultaneous failures of patches of motherboards. Took advantage of slow time to learn more about the site's management and help out in other processes. Learnt SMD soldering, PCB rework, and troubleshooting on LCD circuit boards.
