Yugmil Patel

I’m a robotics engineer focused on building real-world robotic systems that move from lab prototypes to deployed products. Currently, I work as a Lead Robotics Engineer on wheelchair-mounted assistive robots, where I design and build end-to-end robotic systems, from low-level hardware interfaces and CAN-based motor communication to ROS 2 control stacks, simulation pipelines, and human-robot interaction. My work spans software architecture, system integration, simulation (Gazebo, Isaac Sim), and hands-on testing on physical robots. Previously, I was a Founding Engineer at an early-stage robotics startup, where I helped design and launch a full robot prototype showcased at CES 2025 within four months. In a small team environment, I owned broad technical responsibility: robot design, ROS 2 control, autonomous navigation, vision-based manipulation, sensor fusion, and AI-assisted control. One of my final contributions there was a VR-based teleoperation system using Meta Quest 3, enabling remote robot control through real-time point-cloud visualization. My technical interests lie at the intersection of: • Robotics systems engineering • ROS 2 control & custom hardware interfaces • Human-robot interaction & teleoperation • Simulation-to-real workflows • Learning-based robotics (RL, VLMs, policy deployment) I enjoy working in environments where engineering depth matters, constraints are real, and systems must actually work outside of demos. I’m especially motivated by robotics applications that improve accessibility, autonomy, and quality of life.
