About
I was born in a small village in The Gambia, where the floors were made of dirt and the nights were lit by candles. I lost my parents young my mother when I was just two, and my father at eleven. Unlike many girls around me, I had one rare privilege the chance to go to school. Education became my hope, my escape, and the foundation for everything that came after. I worked hard, earned a scholarship, and landed an internship with a U.S. based company while studying Computer Science and Mathematics. At home, I had no electricity and no laptop, so I wrote code by hand on paper. Alhamdulillah, that determination paid off. Out of over 40,000 applicants, I was selected for the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders. Coming to the United States and meeting President Obama opened my eyes to what was possible for a girl from a tiny village who refused to give up. When the fellowship ended, I knew my journey was just beginning. I applied for scholarships and was accepted to Northwestern University on a full ride as an international student and later earned my Master’s degree from the University of Illinois, also on a full scholarship. My stipend was only $1,000 a month, so I learned how to stretch every dollar. One day, I found a shared house that rented by the bed. It was perfect for me but my math brain couldn’t stop calculating. “How much is the owner making?” “How much does a house like this cost?” That was the spark that ignited my obsession with real estate. After graduation, I began working at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Every cent I earned went toward buying properties. Slowly and strategically, I built a portfolio that grew to 156 rental units while working full-time. But as my portfolio grew, so did my awareness of something deeper. Every loan, every mortgage, every interest payment felt wrong. As a Muslim, riba (interest) wasn’t just a financial issue it was a spiritual one. So, I made a decision that changed everything. I stopped using loans. I sold what didn’t align. And I rebuilt , this time on principle over pressure. That choice led to the creation of DeenVest all cash, debt-free interest-free real estate fund that helps Muslims and values-driven investors grow wealth without compromise. From coding on paper in a small Gambian village to building a 7-figure real estate portfolio in America my story is proof that when you lead with faith, work relentlessly, and never lose hope, God can take you further than your circumstances ever could.
