Lead a multidisciplinary legal and advisory practice, advising governments, corporates, boards, financial institutions, technology developers, and start-ups across the intersection of law, technology, digital transformation and policy. Key Responsibilities: 🧩 Advise on digital transformation, AI governance, data governance, cybersecurity, privacy, cross‑border and regulatory compliance 🧩 Conduct digital assessments, capacity diagnostics, regulatory gap analyses, and institutional evaluations 🧩 Lead the design and implementation of governance and risk frameworks for technology adoption, operational resilience, and AI deployment 🧩 Structure, negotiate, and advise on complex technology contracts, including software platforms, outsourcing, cloud, and enterprise agreements 🧩 Support boards and executives on technology risk oversight, digital strategy, institutional capacity, and operational resilience including, on how Data and AI are used across the business 🧩 Provide guidance on emerging technologies, including AI, machine learning risks, audits, and impact assessments 🧩 Advise on technology commercialisation, joint ventures, partnerships, capital raising and intellectual property strategy, including trademarks, patents, copyright, and confidential information 🧩 Develop institutional governance frameworks, defining roles, responsibilities, coordination mechanisms, and accountability structures 🧩 Ensure quality assurance and technical oversight for digital programs

The Australian Artificial Intelligence Institute (AAII) at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is a world leading research institute in artificial intelligence (AI), with a vision to develop theoretical foundations and advanced algorithms for AI, and to drive significant progress in related areas like computational intelligence, business intelligence, computer vision, data science, machine learning, brain computer interface, bioinspired neural networks and information systems. The UTS AAII undertakes highly innovative and challenging research to achieve international standing and to lead advancements in AI. It includes eight research labs, broadly covering the major fields of AI: · Computational Intelligence and Brain-Computer Interface (CIBCI) Lab · Representation Learning for Machine Intelligence (ReLMI) Lab · Biomedical Data Science (BDS) Lab · Decision Systems and e-Service Intelligence (DeSI) Lab · Large-scale Network Analytics (LNA) Lab, Recognition · Learning and Reasoning (ReLER) Lab, · Intelligent Drone Lab (iDL) · Intelligent Computing and Systems Lab The UTS AAII has created significant research impact through extensive industrial applications and collaborations in healthcare, marketing, transportation, education, finance, and defence. Particularly, the collaboration with the defence industry in Australia and the US on brain computer interface has produced global-leading research outcomes and infrastructure.

● I actively contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by participating and speaking at the UN events such as the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum, which is the largest gathering of the ‘ICT for Development’ community and the UN Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Geneva on Smart Cities, AI, Ethics and the Pitfalls of 4.0 Technologies. ● IFIP member groups work with partner organisations such as UNESCO, ITU and the UNCSTD to advance efforts to improve availability of ICTs to developing and disadvantaged communities. ● IFIP operates a range of specialised Technical Committees, Working Groups and Domain Committees, contributing to, and leading, progress in state-of-the art knowledge and practice including in software, artificial intelligence, machine learning, IoT, ICT in Disaster Risk Reduction and other traditional and emerging technologies, providing a valuable platform for worldwide collaboration and knowledge enhancement. ● Since my involvement in IFIP, I have contributed to the development and the maturing of a global ICT profession.

IFIP holds consultative status with UNESCO and is headquartered in Austria, the seat of the United Nations in Vienna. The Mission of IFIP since its inception is to achieve the worldwide professional and socially responsible development and application of information and communication technologies, a Federation representing Organisations from countries/regions, covering five continents with a total membership of over half a million with links to more than 4000 scientists and ICT professionals from Academia & Industry.

● The industry advisory network is an important body for the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology which operates at a senior management level and seeks to maximise the alignment between the UTS: Engineering and UTS: Information Technology programs and the needs of industry. ● Over my 8 years involvement on the advisory for UTS, I am proud to contribute to the growth and re-known of UTS as the top young university in Australia, according to the QS Top 50 Under 50 2018 and the Times Higher Education Young University rankings 2017. ● I have mentored, guest lectured on a number of topics and provided advisory services to students, scientists, academics, staff and the university. ● I was on the panel that hired the current Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and IT with the current Vice-Chancellor and who is leading the ongoing transformation.

● Reviewing and advising on the ICT Strategies of the NSW Government including on Shared Data Centers, Cloud Strategy and Policy, Cybersecurity, Privacy, Investments, Service Delivery, Data Sharing arrangements etc. ● Invited to join by the NSW Finance Minister. ● I chaired the Panel comprising of key leaders from the ICT Industry supported by a team from the NSW Government. ● The Panel was actively involved and successful in advising NSW Government and its Departments, and NSW was voted as the leading inspiration for the strategic use and deployment of ICT resources amongst the states and territories in Australia. ● I have regular meetings with the NSW ICT Board (comprising the cluster Secretaries of the NSW Government Agencies) and was effective in providing strategic advice on policies and technology to the Board. ● The Panel interacts and consults with the CIOs and the senior leaders of ICT in the NSW government agencies on these strategies and policies.

● The NSW Government established the Accelerating Digital Government Taskforce (Taskforce) to report on initiatives and programs to accelerate the digital transformation of the business of government, to deliver better public services in NSW and to transform the public sector by enabling digital ways of working, sharing information more easily between agencies and taking advantages of the opportunities afforded by 'big data'. The scope of work for the Taskforce touches on a number of areas of law, policy, technology and practice and the Taskforce includes both senior government and private sector representatives. ● The Taskforce successfully completed and tabled its recommendations to the NSW Government to accelerate the digital transition and transformation of the public service and highlighted the benefits for public sector efficiency and service delivery. ● The report was largely adopted by the Government and NSW is now the exemplar State in Australia in the adoption, use and deployment of technologies to better deliver public services. Following on from NSW’s successes, the Commonwealth Government have embarked to embrace similar initiatives and programs.

● The Council acts as an advisory body to the Minister and Government both in regard to innovation within the sector and IT's potential to foster innovation across the economy. The establishment of the IT Industry Innovation Council in Australia recognises the leading role that IT plays across all sectors of our economy and its potential to enable innovation which can transform existing industries, create new ones and enhance Australia's competitiveness. ● The Innovation Council was successful in establishing and introducing new programs and initiatives including on innovation, skills, education and the establishment of a tax beneficial incentive Employee Share Options scheme for Australian startups and SMEs.
