National Geospatial Technical Operations Center Project: Historic Topographic Map Collection Description: Scanning, georeferencing and distributing all historic paper USGS topographic maps (nationalmap.gov/historical). Tasks: Design of production workflow, management of development tasks; Development of scripts and applications for semi-automated georeferencing of scanned maps, reprojecting and transforming GeoTIFFs, conversion into GeoPDF, manipulation of GeoPDFs and feature enabling; construction of "GIS-ready" files, database table and procedure management, production of other products for external applications and archives. Since production left the Madison facility the focus has been on increasing accuracy, consistency of standards and better automation of the entire production workflow from raw scanned imagery to final products.
