I Started with Commission for Patient & Public Involvement in Health on secondment from Lambeth CHC as the Patient & Public Involvement & Governance Lead covering the South-East of England. This involved recruiting volunteers, induction, briefing and providing guidance and governance advice to them and the wider NHS and voluntary sector. The role also encompassed designing, writing and delivering training packages to a wide range of audiences, regulatory advice and management responsibility for staff. In 2005 moved to the new post of Area Network Co-ordinator for the same area with responsibility for running forums, organising training and conferences for over a thousand volunteers and major national events. In late 2006 promoted to the new post of Events & Project Manager with responsibility for the same area of work for the whole of England with managerial and budgetary responsibility for a national team of staff and organisation of conferences, events and training for over 3,000 volunteers. Covered at Director level when required. Left due to abolition of organisation.

I was then promoted to Administrative Officer and undertook pension calculations, issuing of payments and customer liaison. I then moved to the DSS as an Administrative Officer with responsibility for calculating and paying benefits and dealing with the general public via correspondence, telephone and face-to-face. In 1992 I was promoted to LO1 Executive Officer and moved to the Benefits Agency in London running a specialist counter service dealing with homeless and violent customers who were unable to use normal offices. I then ran various benefit paying teams. During this period, I also undertook roles involving recruitment financial management, designing and delivering training and communications. I edited our local district newsletter and served on the national editorial board of BA News. I was upgraded to the role of Higher Executive Officer to cover for absence as required. I left to return to full-time education.
