The Roux Institute, located in Portland, Maine, is designed as an engine of innovation, talent–building, and economic growth for the state of Maine and northern New England. The Roux Institute Incubator is home to startups across all stages of maturity and industry sectors. The Entrepreneurship & Venture Creation team supports these startups and works to catalyze innovation in the region.

The ClimateTech Incubator at the Roux Institute supports entrepreneurs and start-up companies that are using artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science to solve clean energy and energy efficiency challenges.

Advise entrepreneurs, family offices, foundations, and non-profits working on solutions to climate change. Engagements have included a mix of investment due diligence, strategic planning, fundraising and operational support, business plan writing, partnership development, and mentoring.

Clean Energy Venture Group (CEVG) is an investment group that provides seed capital and management expertise to early stage clean energy companies. The group is comprised of seasoned operating executives with strong capabilities in the energy and environmental sectors.

Founded Patagonia Sur, a for-profit conservation company that invested in, protected, and monetized ecologically valuable ecosystems in Chilean Patagonia. Patagonia Sur also launched several non-profit entities including Tierra Austral, Chile’s first land trust; MERI, a blue whale research institute; and Reforestemos Patagonia, a public-private campaign to plant a million native-species trees in Torres del Paine and other national parks.

Invested in and advised a portfolio of start-ups including Avión Spirits (acquired by Pernod Ricard), eMode (acquired by Monster Board), Our World of Books, ShipServ, Sun Edison (acquired by MEMC), Tiaxa (acquired by Bemobi Mobile), and Visible Markets. Served as a board member or advisory board member for Ignition Ventures (Seattle), Arts Alliance (London), and Sun Group (London).

Initiated and launched Amazon Anywhere, enabling access to online shopping from mobile devices. Managed community features including customer reviews, wish lists, and purchase circles. Wrote initial business plan for the Amazon Incubator.

Founded the Internet’s first social networking company, PlanetAll, which was acquired by Amazon.com in August 1998. Credited as inventor on eight patents related to social networking and location-based services.
