About
I’m Ward Spangenberg, a technologist, builder, and business strategist working at the intersection of AI/ML, security, product development, and infrastructure. I’ve led initiatives across startups and enterprises, helping organizations turn messy, high-risk technical problems into scalable, secure systems that deliver real business outcomes. My work is grounded in execution. I design and deploy secure architectures, build AI-driven platforms, and translate complex technical strategy into products and roadmaps that teams can actually deliver. I’m most effective where technical depth, operational reality, and business pressure collide. I speak regularly on AI adoption, security architecture, governance, and how to turn ambitious technical roadmaps into measurable results without losing control of risk. I’m especially interested in systems thinking, graph-driven security, and building platforms that scale intelligently instead of collapsing under their own cleverness. Outside of tech, I coach the men’s rugby team at a small college in Massachusetts. It’s a constant reminder that resilient teams are built the same way everywhere: clear roles, trust under pressure, and a lot of disciplined repetition. If you’re passionate about building real systems, leading strong teams, or trading ideas over a good whiskey, we’ll get along just fine.

Experience

Founder & President
Boston, Massachusetts, United States
I founded and lead the Nor’easter Rugby Cup, a multi-week collegiate XVs competition designed to give New England programs meaningful spring rugby, consistent match guarantees, and exposure beyond traditional conference play. The Cup brings together NCR-affiliated teams across NERFU and NACR into a structured, points-based series culminating in a championship weekend in Boston. My role spans competition design, field and referee coordination, sponsorship development, budgeting, risk and liability planning, and partner outreach. I work closely with coaches, referees, and sponsors to create a sustainable tournament model that benefits players, programs, and the broader rugby ecosystem. A core focus of the Cup is connecting sponsors with motivated student-athletes, including internship and early-career recruiting opportunities, while reinforcing rugby’s values of discipline, teamwork, and resilience. Key elements: • Five-team, two-week XVs series with championship finals • Cross-conference competition (NERFU & NACR) • Sponsor visibility tied to student recruitment and brand alignment • Emphasis on safety, competitive balance, and program sustainability This is not a one-off tournament. It’s an attempt to fix a broken spring season.

Leading security strategy, governance, and risk with a bias for action and zero tolerance for checkbox theater. I am still active in across private research, active leadership roles, and multiple advisory boards, so I can bring clarity where others bring clutter. I focus on high-leverage, high-impact engagements where experience leads, outcomes matter, and presence is earned, not assumed.
