Vyki founded Compiler, a civic tech agency dedicated to building a better Los Angeles. Through Compiler her work has included serving as an ambassador for the state’s open data program, as well as developing web applications for clients such as City of Los Angeles, State of California Health and Human Services, and the California Community Foundation. By night she’s a co-founder of Policy Club, a small group of volunteers publishing data analysis and advocating for smarter CA state policy. She previously served as a member of Code for America’s National Advisory Council, and is an advisor to govtech startup CityGrows

CityGrows is a workflow and transparency platform for digital government. The CityGrows platform makes it easy for governments to move paper approval and permitting processes online and begin generating open data, tracking metrics and efficiency, and improving public-private communication. Building off her experience in technology with both governments, and startups, Vyki helped launch the CityGrows workflow platform in 2015. In January of 2016 the team won the Hack the Beach competition for innovation in government and has been growing ever since. Currently Vyki serves as an advisor to CityGrows.

Product Manager
BrightHive develops and supports an ecosystem of open source tools to help workforce development agencies calculate outcomes of training programs. Through data literacy trainings, facilitated data governance workshops, and software BrightHive enables workforce agencies to do more with integrated data. As product manager Vyki leads user research for all products and develops priorities for the engineering team. Her role includes interfacing with open source partner engineering teams and working directly with customers to better understand their challenges in working with data. She also oversees execution of all housing and homelessness data integration projects.

Data and Services Team was responsible for building and maintaining a National Voter File, Day to day included acquisition of voter files from counties and states, data cleaning and processing for consumption by political customers. Designing and supporting integrations with political and census geographical boundaries.

GIS Technician
Avalon, CA
Hired to plan and implement new databases system for invasive plant program after graduating from the UCR Extension GIS program. Worked August through October as a volunteer until funding was found for the program. Update existing field units with new software, research and purchase new units to fit program needs. Produce maps as needed for projects and/or field crews. Streamline desktop interface and teach basic software skills to staff. Light IT and networking.

Botanical Technician
San Clemente Island Los Angeles County, CA
Worked for the Soil Ecology and Restoration Group (SERG) Weekly survey hikes in rough terrain collecting seed, herbarium specimens and surveying for rare and endangered species. Knowledge of flora for general surveys. GPS navigation and data collection using Garmin units. Field Data collection (releves and transects) and data entry. Point person for updating ArcGIS data and creating data sets for map publishing and spatial analysis. Wrote access database for seed collections and germination trials.
