Vivien Gardiner
Managing Director @ Erase Aesthetic Services, Melbourne Australia
About
A career in health and well-being services in both the public and private sectors, as well as close involvement in a number of entrepreneurial startups, have given me broad management experience and valuable insights into many aspects of organisational development and strategic thinking. Many years of voluntary work and involvement in capacity-building in Indonesia have enhanced my perspective through an appreciation of the complex regional environment in which engage and the good fortune we enjoy and are able to share. A bachelor degree from Monash University (majors in history and Indonesian) taught me the discipline of research and the importance of historical perspective. My research focus was the economic history and Islamisation of South and Southeast Asia, providing many insights into the cultural, political, economic and strategic interests of our region.

Volunteer RN & Patient Coordinator
Volunteer RN for Interplast Australia since 1989 as a member of annual surgical team visits to East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Role was to coordinate voluntary surgical programs on the ground and liaise with and train local health teams in primary, intra-operative and post-surgical healthcare, particularly burns and congenital deformities. Also co-ordinated Interplast's domestic program arranging multi-specialty volunteer surgical services, public health system support, accommodation and social support within Australia for individual patients requiring complex surgical management. Carried out Interplast's inaugural post-operative field study in the interior of East Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo), following up indigenous Dayak patients who had previously been transported to coastal centres for reconstructive surgery by visiting surgical teams. This assessment was carried out with the support of the Kelian Foundation at Kelian Equatorial Mining - a Rio Tinto joint venture - and involved living in a remote mine camp and travelling into the jungle by 4WD and canoe to locate individuals in isolated villages. Assisted Interplast's Indonesia Coordinator in ongoing development of reciprocal training and volunteer surgical programs in Indonesia. Recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award for contribution to Humanitarian Services, Rotary International
