Vinay Putreddi
Team Lead / Software Engineer II @ Bear Robotics
About
I'm a computer engineer (a combination of electrical engineering and computer science) and hardware enthusiast currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area. When not working on projects I find interesting, I spend my time cooking, hiking, and learning. I haven't yet found a subject that I'm not interested in learning more about. I absolutely adore biology, but don't often get to spend time on it due to my selected education path. I also enjoy teaching, and have been doing so in one form or another for nearly a decade.

• Designed, simulated, and produced a PCB for a position-agnostic wireless Qi charging system with custom charging algorithms in C++. Demonstrated position agnosticism that increased random placement charging efficiency by 10% and a two-fold increase in optimal placement locations per antenna on transmitter. • Designed, programmed, and implemented a standalone custom arcade cabinet and surround sound speaker system for the Computer Engineering lab. Provided assistance and advice for custom large-format drone research project. • Used computer vision and machine learning libraries to train and demonstrate near-real-time face detection and recognition for on-the-fly verification of authorized individuals using video-equipped UAV monitors.

Hinman CEOs
College Park, Maryland
As the nation’s first living-learning entrepreneurship program, Hinman CEOs is a groundbreaking initiative placing entrepreneurially-minded students from all technical and non-technical academic disciplines in a unique community. Students live together, learn about entrepreneurship, and can launch new ventures. The mission of Hinman CEOs is to foster an entrepreneurial spirit, create a sense of community and cooperation, and develop ethical leaders. All undergraduates from the University of Maryland, College Park are invited to apply for this competitive program. Brian Hinman, University of Maryland A. James Clark School of Engineering alumnus and successful entrepreneur, provided funding to initiate and support the Program. Living-Learning Environment The heart of the Hinman CEOs Program is the living community. All entering Hinman CEOs students live with Program participants in South Campus Commons. This provides maximum exposure to on-site mentors and instructors, as well as fellow students in the Hinman CEOs Program. All students may live with the Hinman CEOs for the entire two years of the Program. Residency is required for first year Program students and highly encouraged for second year Program students. Academic Opportunities Complementing the living environment are the learning opportunities. Each semester, Hinman CEOs enroll in one course exclusive to participants of the Program. Depending on your major, some or all of these courses may count toward your degree requirements for the upper level elective requirement and for satisfaction of upper level course work out of major. If all requirements are met, participants earn a Hinman CEOs Program notation on their transcript. See more at: http://www.hinmanceos.umd.edu/#sthash.EJpzsQWw.dpuf

Undergraduate Researcher - Unmanned Aerial Systems
College Park, MD
The First-Year Innovation & Research Experience (FIRE) program at UMD is a two-year invitation-only research program that allows freshmen to establish university connections and research opportunities to help find academic success and professional paths. I was part of Autonomous Unmanned Systems innovation & research stream of FIRE program. The next generation of autonomous systems will operate in crowded environments filled with manned and unmanned vehicles. The required level of autonomy poses a range of technical and regulatory challenges beyond the current engineering state-of-the-art, and is an active area of research in academic, corporate, and government laboratories. The growth of the autonomous-systems industry is driving a need for educating and training a research-capable work force. Ongoing areas of autonomous unmanned systems research involve individual vehicle capabilities for sensing and control, as well as how groups of vehicles cooperate with one another without human intervention. Basic Research Challenges in Autonomous Unmanned Systems engaged by this stream: * Autonomous Systems Reliability * Guidelines for Ethical Autonomy * Autonomous System Verification & Validation * Platform-level Sense & Avoid Capabilities * Cooperative Control of Multiple Autonomous Vehicles * Managing the Interaction between Humans and Autonomous Systems http://fire.umd.edu
