Victor Nossar

Professor Victor Nossar was Program Leader - Child and Youth Health for the Dept of Health in Northern Territory from March 2010 until May 2015. As a Senior Paediatrician focusing on Community Paediatrics, Victor has had over 30 years experience in implementing community-based services to enhance the health and development of children and young people, in Australia and overseas. Victor currently has professorial-level appointments to The University of Notre Dame Australia, to Menzies School of Health Research in Darwin, and to The University of Western Australia. Prof Nossar is also one of the leadership team developing & implementing the Australian Nurse-Family Partnership Program in sites across Australia. This is a sustained nurse home visiting for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander families that is being extended to more sites by the Australian Government. Before he took up this position in Northern Territory, Prof Nossar was the Foundation Associate Dean who established the new School of Medicine in Sydney at The University of Notre Dame Australia. In South Australia, Victor headed the Every Chance for Every Child Initiative, implementing what was then Australia’s largest sustained nurse home visiting service. Before that, in NSW, he worked for NSW Health, in partnership with The Cabinet Office of NSW and the NSW Commission for Children and Young People to develop and implement the Families First Initiative across NSW. Prof Nossar has also reviewed child health services in states and territories across Australia, and undertaken consultancies addressing Primary Health Care, Early Child Development & Child Health for AusAID, UNFPA, WHO and The World Bank in the Pacific, in China, in Africa and several Indian Ocean countries.
