• Configured non-production and production environments as part of migration of all assets from one AWS account (web tier: Puppet-based ec2 instances) to another AWS account (web tier: Kubernetes) for “Connect2” (connect2.mheducation.com). Complete environment consists of Terraform to setup almost all non-Kubernetes assets (Elasticsearch, Aurora RDS MySQL, SQS, IAM, Elasticache, VPC subnets and security groups) and Helm to install Kubernetes. Migration of Connect2 was the first customer-facing migration to Kubernetes using McGraw-Hill’s internal Kubernetes project. • Became build/release expert for all Kubernetes apps in addition to “Connect2” that are deployed by multiple dev teams mostly in CircleCI. • Migrated Jenkins jobs from old servers to new security-audited servers without access to the original Puppet configurations. • Updated Terraform repos so that committed code was in sync with existing resources. • In general, became Terraform expert for multiple dev teams. • Became main SRE for some AWS Elastic Container Service (ECS) apps. Migrated a non-CICD, ECS app into a fully CI/CD’d pipeline with newer Terraform modules. • Participated in random troubleshooting (e.g. Kubernetes dns problems, exploding etcd databases, constant pod kills caused by misbehaving Off-Hours downscaling app). • Onboarded new Kubernetes and ECS apps through formal company "Operational Readiness" process, including infrastructure review, security review, and monitoring setup. • Communicated regularly with members of multiple teams (e.g. SRE/functional QA/performance QA/product/security/Jenkins/legacy infrastructure) in multiple offices to research and resolve technical product, product ownership, and access issues.
