I grew up in an environment where there was always an abundance of fresh, organic foods. In my household, food played a big part in our socialization with our neighbours and friends. For my family, food had to be good, affordable and most of all nutritious. Creativity played a major part when it came to balancing our food budget. Growing up in this environment has led me to pursue a career in a related field and a strong desire to pass my knowledge onto others. My experience as a supervisor was gained in a setting which caters to the nutritional and social needs of the community. This experience has made me aware of the issue of food insecurity, which exists in many communities, and has created a passion within to help with the alleviation of such problems. My training in the field of Nutrition and Food Service Management has motivated me to help individuals cope with and combat food insecurity and at the same time maintain good health through nutrition, by making healthy food choices.
