Val Achtemeier

Valerie K. Achtemeier (“Val”) is an Executive Vice President at CBRE Capital Markets in the Debt & Structured Finance Group. Based in Los Angeles, Ms. Achtemeier leads a team in placing debt and equity on commercial real estate throughout the United States. During her career, she has originated more than $32 billion of commercial real estate loans and joint venture equity transactions. Ms. Achtemeier has an extensive network of long standing debt and equity relationships including life insurance companies, banks, debt funds, CMBS lenders and investment banks. Since joining CBRE in 2009, Ms. Achtemeier has established a predominately institutional client base and a strategic focus on sourcing debt and equity capital for industrial, office and retail projects. Ms. Achtemeier has developed an expertise as one of the leading mortgage brokers nationally for industrial and logistics portfolios and single tenant financings as well as for larger loan transactions. Prior to joining CBRE, Ms. Achtemeier was the Director of Capital Markets at Majestic Realty Co. where she raised debt and equity capital for industrial, office, retail, and hotel/gaming properties throughout the United States. Earlier in her career, Ms. Achtemeier gained institutional and investment experience at the Principal Financial Group (1987 – 1996). The Achtemeier team is “full service” with detailed underwriting, closing and analytical capabilities as well as strategic expertise to structure and negotiate the full capital stack including senior mortgages, B-notes, mezzanine debt and joint venture equity.

Ms. Achtemeier served as Vice President and Director of Capital Markets at Majestic Realty Co. (1996–2009). In that capacity, she raised debt and equity capital for industrial, retail, office, hotel and gaming assets. Additionally, Ms. Achtemeier was responsible for investment strategy and portfolio analysis. She was also a member of Majestic’s Board of Directors.

Ms. Achtemeier gained institutional experience at The Principal Financial Group where she was responsible for joint venture development and debt placement, restructuring, and acquisitions throughout the U.S. (1987–1996).
