Assist with daily startup and shutdown of the wastewater treatment system, including cleaning and preparing tanks and equipment. Monitor key treatment parameters such as pH, heavy metals, flow levels, and tank conditions to support compliance. Perform routine cleaning and calibration of pH probes to ensure accurate readings. Support sludge management activities, including sludge removal, filter press operation, and holding tank cleaning. Respond to alarms by checking system data, identifying issues (pH imbalance, pump faults, equipment errors), and reporting abnormalities. Adjust chemical dosing (caustic, acid, polymers) under supervision to maintain proper pH and treatment performance. Maintain accurate logs, follow safety procedures, and use proper PPE when handling wastewater and chemicals.

During my field placement, I supported environmental fieldwork and laboratory activities under the supervision of senior environmental scientists and technicians. My responsibilities included collecting and preserving environmental samples (water, soil, and air), maintaining accurate field documentation, conducting in-situ testing using calibrated instruments, and following chain-of-custody procedures for laboratory submission. I also assisted in preparing environmental reports, learned to interpret lab results, and gained practical knowledge of environmental compliance, regulatory standards, and workplace safety procedures. Key achievements: Performed groundwater and surface water sampling at multiple monitoring wells Conducted air quality sampling for VOCs using direct-read instruments Assisted in soil contamination assessments at brownfield sites Ensured data quality through meticulous documentation and QA/QC checks
