About
As a driven and passionate bioengineering student at the University of California, San Diego, I am committed to leveraging innovative technology and research to improve healthcare outcomes. With hands-on experience as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Lundquist Institute and a Clinical Research Assistant at UCLA Health, I’ve had the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects, from AI-driven medical imaging analysis to the validation of non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring systems. In addition to my research roles, I thrive in leadership positions, serving as the staff for the UCR Vietnamese Student Association, where I cultivate academic support initiatives and manage esports events. I also actively participate in community service with the Student Homeless Aid Relief Project, working to support the underserved populations in Riverside. I am always looking for new challenges that merge my interests in biomedical engineering, AI, and clinical research to make a tangible impact on patient care. Let’s connect if you’re looking to collaborate or discuss advancements in healthcare and technology!

Experience

Undergraduate Researcher at TREAT Lab
Riverside, California, United States
Investigated biomaterials for tissue regenerative applications, contributing to advancements in scaffold development and cell-material interactions. Performed precise micropipetting and solution preparation for cell culture experiments, ensuring consistency in experimental protocols. Operated laboratory equipment such as sonicators for nanoparticle dispersal and dry ice for controlled cooling in sample preparation. Collaborated with a multidisciplinary team to develop innovative solutions for regenerative medicine challenges, maintaining strict adherence to ethical research protocols.

Clinical Research Assistant
Los Angeles, California, United States
Development and Validation of a Non-Invasive Multi-Parameter Hemodynamic Monitoring System: A Comprehensive Alternative to Swan-Ganz Catheters for Measuring Stroke Volume (SV), Cardiac Output (CO), and Blood Pressure Engaged in the clinical application of an innovative medical device developed by Adrian Moreno, Ph.D., which non-invasively measures patients' hemodynamic statistics using EKG stickers. This device is currently under FDA review (IRB #19-0303) and protected by a pending software patent. Worked within the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Health System in clinical trials to test methodologies, patient care, and the development of medical devices.

Research Assistant
Torrance, California, United States
Collaborated over the course of a year on a project to Develop and Validate an Artificial Intelligence for Advanced Segmentation of Cardiac Substructures in CT images, aiming to improve the accuracy and efficiency of cardiac imaging analysis. Designed and implemented a machine learning algorithm using Python and PyTorch, achieving 97% accuracy in segmenting non-contrast and contrast Cardiac CT images. Developed a web application using HTML, CSS, Java, React, SQL, MariaDB, Ruby, and C++ to facilitate the tracing of epicardial fat in cardiac CT images, revolutionizing the research institution's workflow.

Undergraduate Researcher
Torrance, California, United States
Contributions to the research for non-invasive preventative treatment for Atherosclerosis and Stenosis under Dr. Budoff Performed analysis on a multitude of CTA scans using softwares such as Philips and Vitrea Conducted CAC (coronary artery calcium) scoring and analyzed fatty liver scans for liver disease Created full stack web application, from frontend to backend that took non contrast CT Worked in partnership with CSIRO, Canberra, Australia, to develop an algorithm that utilizes AI and machine learning to analyze non-contrast CT scans
